The mission of the Center directly supports the safe and efficient operation of the nation and world’s aviation systems while providing competitive business solutions to customers.

Established in 1946 by the Civil Aeronautics Administration to provide uniform aviation standard maintenance, operation and inspection procedures with 350 employees.

Earning the label as one of Oklahoma’s top employers, the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center accommodates on a daily basis over 6,500 federal and contract employees, including a large student body.  The Center has achieved International Organization Standards (ISO) certification in both Quality Management 9001 and Environmental Management 14001. This official recognition signifies that customers can rely on products and services that are of the highest quality, environmentally friendly, safe, efficient and economical.  Residing on approximately 1,100 acres of land, the Center is a multi-purpose industrial, business and academic complex, comprised of 127 buildings with approximately 3.3 million square feet.

The Center delivers products and services among four main business lines:  the FAA Academy, FAA Logistics Center, Enterprise Services Center, and Office of Acquisition Services.  With an operating budget of over $1 billion, the Center provides vital services to numerous federal, state and local agencies including academia.  The Center supplies global aviation training and logistics support to over 130 different countries.  Various staff support offices (facility management, budget support, and quality system and business resources) contribute significantly in the Center’s day-to-day operations.

A variety of business occupations exists at the Center, sharing their expertise among several aviation and business disciplines.  Designated occupational professions include information technology, electronics technicians, financial management and accounting, logistics management, instructors and training specialists, engineers, security and hazardous materials officials, pilots, physicians, architects, air traffic controllers, aviation safety inspectors, attorneys, scientists, and analysts.

A wide-array of business services are co-located at the Aeronautical Center.  Although they operate under other federal agencies besides the Department of Transportation, they provide a vital presence to this exceptional federal campus. Tenants include the Civil Aerospace Medical Institute, the Office of Inspector General, Transportation Safety Institute, the Transportation Security Administration, and the U.S. Coast Guard Institute.
